Southern Tablelands Community Foundation works with likeminded local community groups to facilitate the improvement of its social wellbeing by:
- Empowering communities by enabling groups of people to increase control over their lives and the factors that shape them. It goes beyond simply involving or engaging communities; it implies community ownership and action that actively seeks social and political change.
- Building resilience:
- Individual level
By developing and strengthening an individual’s capacity to cope with, adapt to, and bounce back from stress, adversity, challenges, and trauma. It’s not about avoiding difficult experiences, but rather about cultivating the mental, emotional, and behavioural resources to navigate them effectively and potentially even grow from them. - Community level
Refers to the process of strengthening a community’s capacity to prepare for, withstand, adapt to, and recover from adverse situations, such as natural disasters, economic crises, social upheavals, or other significant challenges. It’s about more than just “bouncing back”; it’s about emerging stronger and more capable in the face of future stresses.
- Facilitating adult and community learning by guiding and supporting adults in acquiring new knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values, often within a community setting. It distinguishes itself from traditional teaching methods for children by acknowledging and leveraging the unique characteristics of adult learners.
- Providing resources and support by making available the necessary tools, materials, information, and assistance to individuals, groups, or organizations to help them achieve their goals, overcome challenges, or improve their well-being. It’s a broad concept that encompasses a wide range of actions and provisions, often tailored to specific needs.
