In serene autumn sunlight with leaves fluttering across deep green turf, gardeners work quietly in the grounds surrounding Goulburn Brewery, the city’s reborn tourist attraction.

The Brewery’s Property Manager Maria Croker is beaming with pride because the place looks like a European picture card. “When we put the turf down it made a huge difference,” she said. The fact winter is around the corner does not faze her either.

“That stark winter look in Goulburn, I think it looks great,” she says. No argument there, most especially from atop the brick stairs that march over one of the levee banks towards the 1836 Brewery, which re-opened in August last year and has been a highly sought after destination for engagement parties and birthdays.

Maria says the opening has been done gracefully with a series of layered additions. Any teething problems have been ironed out along the way.

Thanks to sponsors like Goulburn Brewery the Goulburn Monopoly Board Game has been a hot-ticket item and is now sold out. A limited production run of 1500 games means it has become a collector’s item.

“There are people who never take it out of the box,” says STCF Board member Barbara Nell.

Luckily Top Trump card sets are still available. They’re a companion game to accompany the board game. STCF President Dick Kearins says 3000 sets of cards were produced, and while they have been popular, there are 1800 left for sale.
