It’s an environmental success story that is being shared by a growing number of customers bringing their vehicles in to be loaded at the large Hetherington Street site, or ordering what they need in bulk.
Green waste is windrowed and composted and turned into products for sale as well.
As the cooler months approach well-aged firewood is coming into demand. Rocky Hill sources its Yellow Box firewood from western NSW and ironbark from across the Queensland border. The area has for many years produced top quality wood.
Manager Tammi Thrower says many of their customers can be quite specific on what sort of firewood best suits them.
The sand and soil business was established years ago by the Burgess brothers, who operated it for 22 years.
A bulk haulage operator, the Whybrow family, then bought the business and ran it for 11 years and Rocky Hill Recycled Sand and Soil, a division of Divalls, arrived in 2021 and has been steadily growing.
They employ seven people and featured as a finalist in the recent Business2580 awards.
