No sooner has the Goulburn Show Society wrapped up most of the work required for the outstanding annual event in March this year than volunteers are busily responding to inquiries for next year’s show.
Food vendors, market stall holders and people interested in becoming a member of the Show Society have been calling the executive with their inquiries. Success, it seems, breeds success.
The Show Society, the flagship organisation for the Goulburn Agricultural, Pastoral and Horticultural Society has 130 members. At this year’s two-day event more than 100 volunteers worked on each day to ensure competitions ran like clockwork.
One of the Picnic Train’s formidable steam engines brought carriages filled with Sydneysiders to the show. From the railway station they were taken by bus to the Recreation Ground for a three-hour tour of attractions, industry promotions, ring events, preening poultry and livestock stud champions.
“We received a nice email a few days after the event to say how much they (visitors from Sydney) enjoyed the day,” Secretary Kerrie Jones said.
As they left the show, President Jacki Waugh urged the visitors to think about spending two days in Goulburn next year to take in more of what was on offer.
Next year’s show on March 6 and 7 will be presented with the theme: ‘Tractors, trains and trucks’ which will emerge in most sections, including cakes, needlework, fruit and vegetables, maybe even the home-brewing section.
